Is it not the reason why we pay premium for a plush hotel? That feeling of walking into the room you have been allocated, to see a well organised space with everything you need cleverly tucked away, fresh linens (you didn't have to iron yourself!), and a well planned lighting scheme for your ease. Yes, there is the pool, the bar, the location and concierge service too- which I cant promise Interior Design can accommodate for in your own home, but as for the bedroom- here are some tips to help you create that space you look forward to coming back to night after night.

Linen

Our friends at Frida Home London know the secret to good sleep. With functional, well-designed luxurious bedding, that looks crisp and ready to indulge in, is the start of the whole experience when designing a bedroom. Styling your bed, and layering up with different textures and accessories can be a way to make the bed the focus of your space. There is a blog on styling your bed like a pro which goes into duvet tog, pillow fillings and cotton thread counts and how to step up the luxury of your bed. Whatever colours, materials or styles you choose,  be strict on ironing your bedding - yes I said it! Get that hotel feeling, with well pressed linen so it sits correctly on the bed, even tucking it into the sides to give that nice finish, really makes all the difference when creating this look.

Lighting

For a bright bedroom for getting ready in, and a cosy room to wind down in it all comes down to the right lighting. I have discussed lamps and the importance of having them in easy reach of the bed, but what about all the other task and feature lighting in your space. There can be a main pendant for ambience, a white light around dressing tables, recessed lighting within wardrobes and accent lighting through table lamps. Having the choice, and various circuits allows you to create the desired mood in your bedroom. If you're building from scratch, consider one or two switches that controls all lighting- much like a hotel. However, for most of us this is quite a large task when doing a standard re-decor, so be mindful of how to create the ease of access to your light switches, and what bulb temperatures you decide on in each aspect.

Window Treatments

You may not have realised the impact the window treatments (curtains) have in a hotel room. Very commonly there is a double layer of sheer and blackout, giving guests the privacy without blocking the light and the option for complete darkness if required. This isn't just about customer experience though, it adds a luxurious depth to a room, completing the look with a beautiful finish. There are a range of sheers out there at great prices, so you don't need to break the bank to get this top end look. However, consider double layering your curtains, and wherever possible adding curtains vs blinds in your bedroom for a plush hotel finish.

Give it a go!
